Farouk Hosni, The Minister of Cultural and Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities announced today, April 9, 2002 that Egypt asked UNESCO to create a committee to go to Palestine and find out the current situation of the Islamic and Christian monuments. Dr. Mohammed Abdel Maqsoud will attend this meeting. He is meeting now with the Culture Committee of UNESCO in Paris, with the other Arab countries to explain this atrocious attack against the Palestinian monuments. It is very important to protect the Palestinian Heritage from the destruction of Israel. UNESCO agreed that Egypt, South Africa, Palestine and Hungary can formulate a report that explains and lists the damage that Israel is inflicting on the monuments.
