St. Catherine's Added to the World's Heritage List

The Minister of Culture, Farouk Hosni stated yesterday, in the UNESCO meeting in Paris, France, that the World Heritage Committee decided to add Saint Catherine's site in south Sinia to the World Heritage List. 

Dr. Zahi Hawass, Secretary General for the Supreme Council of Antiquities said that Egypt has a lot of sites that are listed on World Heritage List such as, the pyramids, Abu Simbel, Luxor, Historic Cairo, Nubia, Abu Mena, Lower Egypt, Rosetta and Fuwa.

Dr. Hawass added, that at the next UNESCO held in June, The World Heritage Committee will finalize the decisions made at the last meeting. 

Dr. Mohammed Abd El Maqsoud, the General Director of Lower Egypt Monuments and Egypt's representative at the Paris UNESCO meeting, explained that the World Heritage Committee agreed to establish offer training scholarships for the Egyptian archaeologists in working on the preservation of the desert archeological sites and oasis.
